Alabamaâs Nick Saban on Cupid Shuffle, Wobble, why he learned to dance: âI donât karaokeâ
For years college football fans flocked to video of Nick Saban dancing.
Whether it was the Cupid Shuffle or the Wobble, video views went through the roof when the Alabama coach was cutting a little rug. As AL.com reported in 2016, it goes back to 2007 when YouTube a new site when a clip of Saban doing the Cupid Shuffle at some kind of reception. The video has more than 244,000 views.
Earlier this summer, the coach made headlines for busting out the Wobble on a recruiting visit.
On Wednesday, in a brief excerpt on the SEC Network’s “Marty & McGee” Saban was asked what Karaoke song is his go-to, the Alabama coach explained he doesn’t sing.
“I don’t karaoke,” he said. “I dance.”
The reason is simple. If you didn’t know how to dance back in his day, you couldn’t find a date.
“I got it down,” Saban explains about the Cupid Shuffle. “The Wobble. … I got them down.
Saban, 71, explained when he was growing up in West Virginia there were only three things to do:
- Hang out on the river
- Go to the one movie theater
- There was a dance at the firehouse every other Saturday
“If you couldn’t dance, you couldn’t get a date,” Saban said. “I learned early this is the way of the world. Not signing. Dancing.”
